Akuapim South Municipal Assembly Engages with Berekuso Community

2025 Brekusu Community Engagement The Akuapim South Municipal Assembly (AKSMA) recently conducted a community engagement session at Berekuso, Aburi, as part of the government's efforts to deepen decentralization and encourage grassroots participation in decision-making. The session, presided over by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Paul Osae Offei, provided a platform for community members to express their concerns and engage with the Assembly.

During the engagement, Nana Kojo Tipom of Berekuso, speaking on behalf of the Omanhene, Odeefour Nana Oteng Korankye, raised concerns about the poor drainage system and deteriorating road network in the community. Despite generating substantial revenue for the Assembly, the community feels neglected, and the MCE assured them that measures would be taken to address these issues. Another concern raised was the abandoned, incomplete toilet facility in Berekuso. Nana Otu Afari, a sub-chief, suggested that completing the facility could serve the community well. The MCE acknowledged the concerns and emphasized the importance of community responsibility in addressing some of the challenges.

The Assembly has allocated GH¢258,000 to support less privileged residents in constructing household toilet facilities, and plans are underway to establish a dedicated market space for the municipality. The MCE also highlighted government policies, including the "no fee stress" initiative for first-year students in public institutions, youth training on handiwork, and youth employment opportunities in security services.

Additionally, the MCE announced the allocation of GH₡1,000,000 to establish a women's bank to support businesswomen in the country. Women interested in benefiting from this initiative are encouraged to obtain their Ghana cards before registration begins. The MCE assured the public that the Dome-Kitase Road had been submitted to the Official Creditors Committee (OCC) for approval, with construction expected to commence after clearance. He expressed gratitude to community members for their participation and encouraged them to engage in activities that would help develop the municipality.

Through this community engagement, the Akuapim South Municipal Assembly demonstrated its commitment to listening to the needs of its residents and working towards creating a better future for all.
